Margaret August

Margaret August is a Coast Salish artist from Shíshálh Nation, born in 1983 in traditional unceded Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ territories (Victoria, BC). They began their artistic journey at a young age, influenced by artists such as Susan Point, Mark Preston, and Butch Dick. In 2011, Margaret began showing their work in group art shows, and in 2017, they recieved a one-year Emerging Artist project grant from the People's Cultural Council. Around the same time, they came under the mentorship of fellow Coast Salish artists Mark Gauti and Dylan Thomas. Since then, Margaret has produced works in a variety of mediums including prints, wood panels, and glass. They are deeply devoted to their artistic practice and strive to further their career and abilities, as art is their life's purpose.
